About NAMI

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

What began in 1979 as a small group of families gathering around a kitchen table has grown into a nationwide mental health organization with more than 600 local affiliates. Through its network, NAMI works within communities to provide education and support, raise awareness, advocate for individuals and families, and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

NAMI’s work continues to create opportunities for individuals and families to find information, resources, connection, and hope.
